

Johnny (John) Marcus Ashley, Jr. was born on March 26, 1940, in Lufkin, Texas, and passed away on July 8, 2026. John retired from U.S. Steel after 25 years of dedicated service before pursuing his passion for aviation by establishing Ashley Aircraft and A & P Airpark. He will be remembered for his love of flying airplanes and fishing, as well as his willingness to help anyone in need, especially when it came to mechanical problems. He never missed an opportunity to lend a helping hand. He is survived by his beloved wife of 44 years, Barbara LeBlanc Ashley; his children, Kim Ashley Arnold (Richard) and Johnny “Bubba” Ashley III; his grandchildren, Amber Couvillion Bourgeois (Kyle), Aaliyah Nazrallah (Saim Shahzad), Mary Williamson Clarke (Michael), Linsey Ashley, Johnny “Marcus” Ashley IV (Jodie Daze), and Tyler Ashley; and numerous great-grandchildren. In addition, he is survived by his stepchildren, Charles Hutto (Robin), Richard Hutto (Kris), and Ann Hutto Langlois (Eric); his step-grandchildren, Dr. David Hutto (Kaylee), Rachel Hutto Schmeidler (Joshua), Jacob Hutto, Macie Hutto, Sarah Langlois Doiron (Blake), and Dr. Adam Langlois. John was preceded in death by his parents, Johnny and Myrtle Peavy Ashley, and his step-grandson, Joshua Hutto. Visitation will be held at Ourso Funeral Home on Tuesday, July 14, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. Funeral services will begin at 11:00 a.m., with interment immediately following at Hope Haven Cemetery in Gonzales, Louisiana. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that memorial donations be made to Cancer Services of Greater Baton Rouge. The family would also like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the nurses and staff of Clarity Hospice for the compassionate care and support they provided to John and his family.
