Johnny Navarro passed away on October 18, 2026, at the age of 64. He was born in Palm Beach, Florida. He lived the majority of his life in south Florida, which he always said meant he was a “Floridarican”, as his parents Francisca “Maria” Rodriguez Sanabria and Juan Navarro were Puerto Rican. However; Johnny became an honorary “Cajun” when he moved to Louisiana in 2007. Johnny was loved in Louisiana just as much as he was in Florida. Anyone who knew him loved him. He made it his mission to be the fun guy at any type of function and enjoyed making people laugh and dance. He never met a stranger, he knew everyone in his neighborhood as a result of his many walks with his beloved dog, Daisy. His wife Ashlee Hanson Navarro was often baffled when people stopped him to talk because he knew more people in Louisiana than she did. These attributes were what made her fall in love with him from the first day they met. Johnny loved his children, grandchildren and all his family fiercely, Candise Whitlock (Shawn, Blake, Braylen), Samantha Navarro (Donnie and Rhian Bishop), Johnny Navarro Jr., and Olivia Navarro, brother Carmelo Navarro (Anna) and sister Maria “Lula” Navarro, Mother-In-Law Ruth Hanson, Sister-In-Law Bethe Decoteau (Mattie). He was preceded in death by his father Juan Navarro, brothers Raul Navarro and Jamie Navarro, and stepfather Luis Sanabria, Father-in-Law Harry Hanson Jr. and Brother-In-Law Brent Hanson.
Johnny, although retired, had continued his career in the Sugar Mill industry as a Supervisor of the Boiler Room upon moving to Louisiana. The list of job titles he held over the years was numerous, as were his stories about each of them. He did whatever he needed to make a living and take care of his family.
Johnny was a member of St. Theresa of Avila Catholic Church in Gonzales, LA where he served as an usher, a member of the Hospitality Committee and a member of the Knights of Columbus.
In his spare time, he loved to grill, but roasting a pig was his favorite thing to cook. He handmade a pit in his yard specifically for this purpose and enjoyed many cookouts with neighbors, friends and family. He also enjoyed riding motorcycles, fishing, camping in his travel trailer, hunting, and just piddling in his garage.
Johnny will be loved and missed for all eternity.
Family and friends are invited to attend a night wake on Sunday, October 25, 2026, from 4PM till 7PM at Ourso Funeral Home, 13533 Airline Hwy. Gonzales, LA 70737. Visitation will continue on Monday, October 26, 2026, at St. Theresa of Avilla Catholic Church, 1022 N Burnside Ave Gonzales, LA 70737, starting at 9:30AM with a Mass of Christian Burial at 11AM. Johnny will be laid to rest at Hope Haven Garden of Memory in Prairieville, LA.
