Funeral services will be conducted for SFC(Ret) Lawrence Joseph Hatch, age 69, at 11:00 am Thursday July 24, 2014 at Sacred Heart Chapel located at the Gillis W. Long Center (5445 Point Clair Road, Carville, LA 70721). Interment will follow at Port Hudson National Cemetery located at 303 W. Mount Pleasant Road, Zachary, LA 70791 with military honors by the Fort Polk Honor Guard. Visitation will be held from 9:00 am until 11:00 am on Thursday, July 24, 2014. A native of Boston, Massachusetts and resident of Carville, SFC Hatch passed away on Sunday, July 19, 2014 at his daughter's residence. SFC Hatch was a United States Army veteran having honorably served three combat tours in Vietnam. He was a longtime Post Commander of the VFW post #7323 where he was affectionately known as "The Roadrunner." After being stationed in Germany for many years, SFC Hatch spoke German. He was also fluent in Vietnamese. SFC Hatch was a faithful patron of the Silo E-Club and had numerous friends at Jackson Barracks, Camp Beauregard and at the Gillis W. Long Center. He will be missed by all of his friends, especially Courtney Bieber, Ashlee Owen, John David Cambre, Wagon Wheel and Kim Butler. He is survived by his daughter, Terri A. Silver and granddaughters, Lauren Shoats and Brenna Shoats. He was preceded in death by his wife, Helen Hatch; son, Joseph Lawrence Hatch and parents, Lawrence T. Hatch and Frances Meehan Hatch.
