The world has lost a truly compassionate man and world traveler, who had helped many during his life's journey with his big heart and positive outlook on life. Leon O. Mitchell, 90, of Prairieville, LA, passed away on May 3, 2023 at home surrounded by friends and family. Leon was born June 9, 1932 in Frankfort, Maine. Leon enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in December of 1950 at the age of 18 and mustered out as a sergeant in December 1953. Leon is survived by the love of his life of 69 years, Hattie Marie Murray of Prairieville, LA; son, Patrick (Shelly) Mitchell of Baton Rouge, LA; daughters, Cynthia (Ken) Goodson of Katy, TX, Kathryn (James) Blair of Geismar, LA, and Sherry Faust of Baton Rouge, LA; seven grandchildren, Brandon White, Cara Dickinson, Brooke Mitchell, Jeffrey Goodson, Grace Salvie, Danielle Faust, and Francesca Faust; five great grandchildren, Stormie Bowers, Alexandra Dickinson, Dakota Goodson, Randy Ferguson Jr. and Norah Salvie; sister-in-law, Edna Mitchell of Freedom, ME; and numerous nieces, nephews, in-laws, and close friends spread throughout the world. He is preceded in death by his parents, Charles A. Mitchell Sr. and Bridget Walsh Mitchell; son-in-law, Robert A. Faust; daughter-in-law, Rita Harriet Mitchell; brothers and sisters, Violet & Roger Clark, Harold "Red" & Phyllis Mitchell, Marion Mitchell, Alice & Carl Weston II, June Mitchell, Annie & Frank Davis, Marie Hope Mitchell, Charles & Ida Mitchell, Elmin Mitchell, Joyce & Bob Gregoire, and Donna Mitchell. The family wishes to thank his long time doctor, Dr. Jacques Saunders, the ICU cardiovascular staff at Our Lady of the Lake and Dr. Michael Conners III for their excellent and compassionate care. In lieu of flowers, the family wishes any donations be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Memphis, TN 38105. Family and friends are invited to attend the visitation which will be held at Ourso Funeral Home, 13533 Airline Hwy., Gonzales, LA., on Friday, May 26, 2023 from 4pm-6pm with a Celebration of Life Service beginning at 6pm.
