Lucien John “LJ” Mayers, born October 24, 1941, in Gonzales, was the son of Lucien Mayers and Yolande Poche Mayers, known locally through the Fairwood Grocery. LJ married Peggy Childers of Springfield, and together they built a family grounded in work, craft, and community.
A lifelong artisan, LJ worked in furniture, painting, sculpture, and decorative gourds. He retired from DuPont Chemical Company in 1995 after 33 years of service in the maintenance department.
He is survived by his son, Grant, and his wife Kristi; two grandsons, Chase and Logan; and three step granddaughters, Gabrielle, Destiny, and Jasmine. LJ is also survived by his sisters, Muriel and Carol, and his brother, Barry.
