“Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy strength, and with all thy mind; and thy neighbor as thyself.” Luke 10:27. Lyle Joseph Schexnaydre, born on August 20,1941 to the late Berthil and Edith Brou Schexnaydre in Burnside, La., passed away at his home on Saturday, October 11, 2014, surrounded by his loving family at the age of 73. Lyle was a graduate of Ascension Catholic High School in Donaldsonville, La. During his life he worked as a general contractor providing maintenance on the historical landmarks of Houmas House and Oak Alley plantations, was owner of LS Farms, a farming operation that harvested sugarcane, soybean, and crawfish, which was the orginal Schexnaydre family farm of Orange Grove Plantation in Burnside. He also served as Assistant Director of the Parish of Ascension Department of Recreation for 25 years until his retirement this year. A diligent worker, he maintained employment with the parish government while operating heavy equipment in his spare time until his battle with liver cancer no longer allowed him to do so at age of 72. He was a Scoutmaster for many years, a Lion's club member and also participated as an avid member of the St. Amant High Booster Club where he served as booster club president for a term. Lyle’s legacy is defined by the many people that he helped throughout his life. A true good Samaritan, he was always lending support to those less fortunate. Many of whom others might find undeserving, Lyle would never turn away. Known as quite a character, his sense of humor brought happiness to those who surrounded him.
