Marguerite Graffeo Waguespack, a lifelong Louisiana resident, passed away peacefully Saturday, August 6, having just turned 101 years old. Born in Donaldsonville to Italian immigrant parents, she raised her children in Baton Rouge before moving to Prairieville, where she lived for 20 years. She was living in her daughter’s home in Carencro at her time of passing.
Family and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, 15208 Highway 73, on Wednesday, August 10, 2022 at 11:30 a.m. Visitation will begin at 10:30 as well as the recitation of the Rosary. Interment will immediately follow mass at Hope Haven, 37577 Duplessis Rd. Prairieville, LA 70769. Those honored to serve as pallbearers are her grandsons and great grandsons.
Marguerite loved to cook for her friends and family, her specialties being her spaghetti and meatballs and stuffed artichokes, and pralines that her mother-in-law taught her how to cook. Holidays and special occasions were filled with food and family, and even ordinary weeknights were made special by eating supper at 6 o’clock with the family sitting all around the table. She was a devoted mother and military wife, displaying immense strength while her husband was on active duty.
Above all, she is remembered for her devotion to God. She and her loving husband of 67 years, Lynn Sr., were members of St. Gerard Majella Catholic Church in Baton Rouge and St. Mark’s Catholic Church in Prairieville. They were active members in the Blue Army of Our Lady of Fatima. After the Roe vs. Wade decision, they were active in the pro-life movement and attended pro-life marches in Baton Rouge. They were blessed to be able to travel and participate in pilgrimages in Italy, the Holy Land, Medjugorje, and the US. They also spent an hour each week in the Eucharistic Adoration Chapel at St. Mark’s for many years. She was a member of Our Lady’s Rosary Makers, reaching her rosary quota of 100 rosaries a month to send to the overseas missions for over 40 years, until suffering a stroke in 2020. She taught all her grandchildren to make the rosaries during their summer visits with her.
She is survived by her daughter, Margaret Vidrine; sons, Paul and wife Jan of Prairieville, Lynn Jr. and wife Janelle of Gonzales, Brent and wife Deborah of Humble, TX, and Peter and wife Jana of Sulphur Springs, TX; 19 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; and 10 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lynn Sr., parents, Frank and Anna Maria Conzonere Graffeo, 11 siblings, son-in-law Glenn Vidrine, and daughter-in-law Ruth Waguespack.
She always put God and family first, shared her faith by example, and didn’t hesitate to let you know if she thought you were not following God’s will. She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother and an inspiration to all. She will be missed greatly by her family.
The family would like to give a special thank you to the staff and nurses, Stuart, Sonya, and Vicky from Aemedisys Hospice of Lafayette, for their care. Additionally they would also like to thank her sitters, Janice and Franni for their care and support. Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.oursofh.com for the Waguespack family.
