

Mary Bruno Speligene Lucido - Born on November 22, 1913, in New Orleans to Guiseppe and Anna Bruno. A resident of Brittany, Mary passed away on Wednesday, February 20, 2013 at the age of 99 at her home surrounded by family and friends. Mary is survived by her children, Mary Anne (John) Wolff of Houston, Texas, Chris (Myrna) Speligene of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Sam (Paula) Speligene of Gonzales, and Annette (Emerson) West of Gonzales. Mary was blessed with 13 grandchildren, Jeff (Quinnia) Speligene, Stephanie (George) Rigazzi, Brian (Lisa) Speligene, Lori (Jim) Shulman, Allison (Chad) Braud, Cristina Speligene, Darren (Monica) Speligene, Stefan (Lizanne) Speligene, Paige (Kevin) Babin, Angie West, Amy (Sean) Fuselier, Ashli (David) West Roscher, Erin (Craig) Landry; and 28 great-grandchildren, Phillip, Stacie, Emily, Alan, Amy, Laura, Joseph, Lindsey, Shay, Christopher, Audrey, Madeline, Mallory, Devon, Marina, Michaela, Melisse, Joseph Cade, Cody, Elizabeth, Claire, Caroline, Reid, Madelyn, Ross, Jack, Cole, Nate, and Hayes; and six great-great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews, and her faithful companion, Brickleigh. Mary was preceded in death by her first husband, Sam Speligene; her second husband, Tony Lucido; and her son Joseph Speligene. Mary's family meant the world to her. She was eleven years old when her mother died, and Mary did an amazing job of helping her father raise her siblings. Her love of cooking started then, when she had to stand on a chair to stir the pots. She loved people, and she loved cooking for them. She was famous for her spaghetti and meatballs, homemade bread, and Italian sausage. She enjoyed Sunday dinner with her family and friends around her table. Not only was Mary the matriarch of her own family, but she served as a mother to many. Visiting will be at Ourso Funeral Home, Gonzales on Friday, February 22, 2013 from 5 pm to 9 pm. Visiting will resume on Saturday, February 23, 2013, at St. Theresa of Avila Church, Gonzales from 9 am until Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 am. Entombment to follow in Hope Haven Cemetery, Gonzales. Pallbearers will be Darren Speligene, Stefan Speligene, Jeff Speligene, Duane Kling, Daniel Kling, and Anthony Bruno, Jr. Honorary pallbearers will be Charles Fridge, Raymond Lapino, John Wolff, Robert Malbrough, Melanie Kling, and Carla Beech. The family would like to thank Cindy St. Romain and Carla Beech for being special friends and loving caregivers. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Mary's memory to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or St. Anne's Catholic Church.
