Michael Wilks Reames, 74, born July 12, 1947, and a native of St. Gabriel, Louisiana, passed away December 2, 2021, at 2:30 AM, surrounded by his devoted children. Born into a humble, hardworking family, Mike graduated from St. Gabriel High School in 1965, earning All-State Honors as quarterback. In 1967 he married Bonnie Margaret Carville, and their union lasted until her passing in 2017. Together they raised a loving and close-knit family which grew to include six children, four daughters-in-law, two sons-in-law, and thirteen grandchildren.
Mike worked tirelessly for over 40 years, providing for his family. He began as a plant operator, advanced to supervisory positions, and took on other responsibilities in the petrochemical industry. He was well-liked and respected by all of his peers during his career. Throughout his life, he taught his family the value of hard work. His favorite pastimes included spending time with family and friends, playing golf, and cheering on his hometown LSU Tigers. He especially enjoyed watching his grandchildren in athletic and other competitions in his later years.
Mike remained resilient for his family in the face of painful illness, while his family remained dedicated to his care. Mike is now reunited for eternity with Bonnie and many loved ones.
He is preceded in death by his wife Bonnie Carville Reames, his parents Bevie and Ruth Reames, and his in-laws Nippy and Chester Carville. He is survived by his six children: Will Reames (Carla), Matt Reames (Danielle), Brian Reames (Carolina), Patrick Reames (Jennifer), Jamie Reames Hardie (Charles), Courtney Reames Haydell (Garner), as well as his thirteen beloved grandchildren: Grace, Grant, Adrian, Isabella, Grayson, Elijah, Olivia, Jude, Benjamin, Adeline, William, Maxwell, and Zachary. He is also survived by his brother Ken Reames (Judy) and sister Brenda Temple (Billy), and their children and grandchildren.
The Reames Family appreciates the support and prayers received. We will forever be proud to call Michael Reames our Father and Grandfather. We will miss him terribly.
Family and friends are invited to attend a night visitation at St. Gabriel Catholic Church on Sunday, December 5, 2021 from 5pm-8pm. The memorial visitation will continue on Monday, December 6, 2021 beginning at 8am with a Catholic Mass following at 10am. Mike will be laid to rest in the church cemetery following the services.
