

A resident of Gonzales, Nathan passed away on Wednesday, December 10, 2014 at the age of 86. He was born in Grand Couteau, LA on October 1, 1928 to Louis and Melanie Pelafigue LaPorte. He had retired from the Local 406, International Union of Operating Engineers, as a Heavy Equipment Operator and Master Mechanic. After his retirement he was able to spend more time doing what he loved; listening to and playing music on his guitar, traveling, and his passion of repairing lawn mowers. He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Lula "Sis" Thibodeaux LaPorte; daughters, Susan Smiley (Barry) and Sonya Stewart (Dewey); sons, Chester James LaPorte and Anthony "Tony" LaPorte; sisters, Audrey Lavergne and Jane Guillory; brothers, Dewey and James LaPorte; daughter in law, Rozanne LaPorte; nine grandchildren, Matthew LaPorte (Sarah), Emily LaPorte, Kerry Babin, Kasey Smiley, Amy Kilgore (Terry), Nathan LaPorte (Amy), Adam LaPorte (Michelle), Julee' LaPorte (Del), and Kadee Dupuis (Chase); and nine great grandchildren, Kaleb Villar, Blythe Babin, Lee Kilgore, Trent LaPorte, Molly Kilgore, Landon LaPorte, Luke LaPorte, Beck Dupuis, and London LaPorte. He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Danny Ray LaPorte; sister, Edith Wyble; and brother, Whitney LaPorte. Visiting will be at Ourso Funeral Home, Gonzales on Friday, December 12, 2014 from 5 pm until 9 pm. Visiting will continue on Saturday at St. Theresa of Avila Catholic Church, Gonzales from 8 am until Mass of Christian Burial at 10 am, Rev. Eric Gyan, officiating. Entombment to follow in Hope Haven Mausoleum, Gonzales. Pallbearers will be Matthew, Nathan, Adam, Raphael, Chester and Anthony LaPorte. Kaleb Villar will serve as honorary pallbearer.
