Ollie Mae Peltier Waggenspack LeBlanc passed away on August 17, 2025 at the age of 97. Ollie was a shining light in the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her journey on this earth was one marked by love, compassion, and unwavering faith in God.
She has now gone to join those that passed before her; her husband of 64-years, Harold Waggenspack and her husband in recent years, Eugene LeBlanc Sr., her infant son Jody; her parents, Emile and Blanche Peltier and her siblings; Mary Blanche Marchand, John Selby Peltier, Robert Emmett Peltier, Alvord Charles Peltier, Emile Peltier Jr and her stepson, Eugene LeBlanc Jr.
She leaves behind those to cherish her memory; her sons, Gerard Waggenspack (Waymonth), Robert Waggenspack (Carla) and David Waggenspack (Yvonne) and her step-children, Anne (Bert) Dorgant, Helen (Bob) Causey, Jeanne (Phil) Harris, Lydia (Darwin) Haydel, Mary Claire LeBlanc, daughter-in-law Kaye LeBlanc, Philip (Julie) LeBlanc, Rachael (Duane) Schexnayder, Estelle (Tim) Hill, Laura (Cliff) Comeaux, Mark (Ellen) LeBlanc.
She was the proud grandmother of Gerard Smiley (Misty), Luke Waggenspack (Michelle), Aaron Waggenspack (Kimmberly), Adam Waggenspack (Elizabeth), Brian Waggenspack (Melissa), Cathy Waggenspack-Landry (Dustin), Derek Waggenspack (Anna), Emily Waggenspack (Randall), Stephanie Volion (Thomas) and numerous great and great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sisters, Catherine Sharp, Carol Peltier, and Linda Landry and a host of nieces, nephews and family members.
Ollie Mae graduated from St. Gabriel High School in 1945 as the Valedictorian. After, she attended Our Lady of the Lake School of Nursing earning her RN. She began her career with OLOL in Labor & Delivery where she remained for 25 years until they closed the unit. After its closure, she worked in the new Recovery Room. Three years later, she was promoted to Head Nurse of the Outpatient Surgery Unit, until she retired. Even after she “retired” she went back in the NAN (Nurses as Needed) program in the same unit for 3 additional years. She continued her service as a Eucharistic Minister at OLOL for 15 years.
Ollie was a caregiver by nature and always wanted to be there to help others. She was a woman of faith and was actively involved at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church. She was a Eucharistic Minister, Lector, & a member of the Ladies Altar Society where she would embroider the crosses on the church linens. She enjoyed baking her famous sourdough rolls and cinnamon rolls for the church bake sales.
Ollie loved sewing, crocheting, embroidering, cooking and tending to her flowers. She enjoyed traveling to many states. Her favorite trip was when she and Harold participated in the 250th Anniversary of the Oregon Trail, retracing the steps of the early pioneers. She was blessed to marry two wonderful men who loved to travel, dance, and talk as much as she loved to listen. With Eugene, she enjoyed traveling to Disney, Alaska, and Europe. Above all, she loved spending time with her family. The times and memories shared will be cherished forever by all of those who knew and loved her.
Although Ollie’s physical presence may no longer grace our lives, her spirit will continue to inspire and uplift us. May her memory be a blessing, and may we carry forth her legacy of love and compassion in all that we do.
The family would like to express their gratitude to Pinnacle Hospice, Hospice of Baton Rouge Butterfly Wing and Ollie Steele Burden Manor for all their compassion while caring for Ollie.
Pallbearers will be Adam, Brian, Derek, and Lenny Waggenspack, Dustin Landry, and Randall Skillern.
