Patricia was born on August 7, 1940, in White Castle, Louisiana, to Nicholas and Ruby Verret. She was one of four daughters and lived a beautiful life centered around faith, family, friendship, and service to others.
Patricia often said how blessed she was to have shared her life with her beloved husband, John Raymond Schexnaider, and to have been surrounded by a loving family, especially her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchild whom she adored deeply. She treasured the lifelong friendships she shared with her classmates from St. Anthony High School, Class of 1958, who faithfully gathered for monthly lunches for many years. She also greatly enjoyed her Monday night Bourrée card group, where laughter and friendship were always present. Affectionately known as “Momma Shake,” Patricia opened her heart and home to countless friends, former baseball players coached by her son, and her grandsons’ friends, all of whom considered her family. Her warmth, kindness, and nurturing spirit touched everyone who knew her. A deeply spiritual woman, Patricia loved teaching children about Christ and sharing her faith with others. She helped establish Children’s Church at French Settlement. She was also a founding member of the Catholic Daughters, the first president of St. Vincent de Paul Society at St. Joseph Catholic Church and she was a Eucharistic minister at Our Lady of the Lake Hospital for many years.
While Patricia cherished her many friendships, her greatest joy was always her family. She was especially proud of her children, Jeff and Doddie; her grandsons, Raymond and Nick Schexnaider; and the blessing of meeting her first great-grandson, Noah Paul Schexnaider.
Her story does not end here. The countless memories, stories, traditions, and love she shared will continue to live on through generations to come. The family is deeply grateful for the kindness, prayers, and support shown by family and friends throughout Patricia’s final journey, helping make her last days peaceful and comfortable. A special thank you is extended to her favorite doctor, Dr. Lara Falcon, along with all the doctors, nurses, and caregivers who cared for her over the years.
Left to cherish her memory are her children, Jeffery “Jeff” Paul Schexnaider (Laurie) and Doddie Schexnaider Shelley (Scott); sisters, Sue East and Lois Cook; grandsons, Raymond Paul Schexnaider (Marjory) and John Nicholas Schexnaider (Macie); great-grandson, Noah Paul Schexnaider; and her cherished St. Anthony classmates and many dear friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond Schexnaider; parents, Nicholas Verret and Ruby Freioux Verret; sister, Edith Pierce; and nephews, Johnny Pierce and Bart East.
Services for Patricia will be held on Thursday, June 4, 2026, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, French Settlement, Louisiana. Visiting will be from (am until the mass of Christian burial at 11 am. She will be laid to rest in St. Joseph Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, Patricia requested that donations be made to her favorite charity, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
Momma Shake, you will truly be missed by so many. Job well done. Rest in peace.
