Peggy Joyce Childers Mayers, born November 15, 1941, in Lizard Creek outside Springfield, Livingston Parish, was the daughter of Freeman Childers and Estelle Wall Childers. She earned a Bachelor of Science from Southeastern Louisiana University and later completed a Master’s in Education at Louisiana State University.
Peggy married Lucien “LJ” Mayers of Gonzales, and together they shared a life rooted in family, education, and community. She retired from the Ascension Parish School System in 2000 after 36 years of dedicated service.
She is survived by her son, Grant, and his wife Kristi; two grandsons, Chase and Logan; and three step granddaughters, Gabrielle, Destiny, and Jasmine. Peggy is also survived by her brothers, Gary and Rodney.
