Perry proudly served his country as a United States Army veteran during the Vietnam War. Following his military service, he went on to enjoy a long and dedicated career as an iron worker before retiring.
Perry found great joy in the simple pleasures of life. He loved being outdoors and especially looked forward to time spent at the deer hunting camp. He loved cooking for everyone at the camp and sharing good food, stories, and laughter. Perry loved LSU baseball and enjoyed following sports of all kinds. He also loved music and dancing, especially doing the jitterbug. Above all, Perry treasured his family.
Perry is survived by his children, Toni S. Guerin and husband Jeremy Guerin, Clay Schexnayder and wife Phoebe K. Schexnayder, Charles Hutchinson and wife Brenda Hutchinson, and Jessie Hutchinson and wife Roberta Hutchinson; grandchildren, Chaning S. Sharpton and husband John Mark Sharpton, Cambre S. Bova and husband Nick Bova, Beau Diez, and Jonathan Diez; sisters, Donna Lambert and husband Todd Lambert and Yvette Schexnayder; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Harold Schexnayder Sr. and Beatrice LeBlanc Schexnayder; sister, Dolly S. Hutchinson; and brother, Harold Schexnayder Jr.
Visitation and funeral services for Perry will be held on Monday, September 14, 2026, at St. Anne Catholic Church in Sorrento. Visitation will begin at 9:00 a.m., followed by the Funeral Mass at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow at Holy Rosary Mausoleum in St. Amant.
Serving as pallbearers are Troy Schexnayder, Jeremy Guerin, Paul Kerek, Don Hutchinson, Mark Savoy, and Ronnie Melancon and Charles Hutchinson as honorary pallbearer.
Perry leaves behind a lifetime of cherished memories and a legacy of love, laughter, family, service, and friendship. He will be dearly missed and forever remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
