She began her trip on December 29th, 1947 in Berea, Ohio as the daughter of David and Mae Rose Fazekas. Not long after, the family relocated to Mae Rose’s native Algiers, Louisiana, where Rhonda graduated from Martin Behrman High School in 1966. Even before finishing school, she entered the workforce as a member of and later heading the typists’ pool at Pan-American Life Insurance until the care of her children outweighed her patience with actuaries.
Rhonda was the devoted wife of Kenneth Munsterman since 1975. They shared twenty-nine years together. She remained devoted, ending her trip one hour before the twenty-second anniversary of his passing. They made residence in Algiers and for many years in Belle Chasse, LA. She spent her final years among family and nature in Geismar, LA.
As a mother, grandmother, sister, and aunt she was an anchor. Her wisdom came only when solicited, her recipes shared generously (even though it always tasted better when she made it), her assistance with sewing or drawing or navigating the traffic between Baton Rouge and New Orleans incalculably sage. She loved with her whole heart and was endlessly tickled by the people her love touched.
She is survived by her sons Michael-a-Pie-kal [Michael] and Nino Poochatooey [Geoffrey] and her cherished daughter-in-law Billi; her grandchildren Kenny and Ava; her siblings Jan, Dave, Brynnie, Stevie, and Nay-Nay; and a wide circle of extended family and friends, all of whom had nicknames and all of whom will miss her dearly.
She was preceded in death by her brothers Danny and Bobby, her sister Joan, and her dear husband. The last bite of all her sandwiches went to Jenny, Roscoe, Lance, and Dixie—all very good dogs she spoiled rotten.
A celebration of Rhonda’s life will be held among family. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to your local animal shelter.
