Richard Vincent Duhon

The family of Richard Vincent Duhon is saddened to announce the death of their beloved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, uncle, and friend. Our Pawpaw Richard passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family Saturday morning, December 7th at St. Elizabeths in Gonzales, LA. Richard was born August 25, 1942, the only son of John and Laura Gaudet Duhon in Harvey, LA. His childhood was spent in Harvey, and after serving proudly in the US Naval Air Force, he worked for the Illinois Central Railroad and settled his family in Gonzales, LA, and then in Maurepas, LA. It was in Gonzales that he began the career he was eventually to retire from as an Operator with Uniroyal Chemical. He always said that his greatest accomplishment was his family. He was married for 63 years to the former Marjorie Jean Barbera and together they had two daughters, Tamara ”Tammy” Duhon Suir(Eric) and Kim Duhon Funck(William), 8 grandchildren, Richard Suir, Dane Suir(Emily), Erica Suir White(CJ), Laura Suir Heath(Caleb), Amy Duhon Perrodin(Jacob), Amanda Funck Nyblom(Ean), David Funck(Rhe’Anna) and Devin Funck. His great grandchildren are Vincent and Robert Suir(their mother Amanda Fulton), Samuel, Parker, Jack and Delaine Suir, Beau, Ann, Grace and Eric White, Lee, Jane and Paul Heath, Brilynn and Charlee Perrodin, Landen, Leigha and Kayleigh Nyblom, Krystallynn, Patrick and Devin, Jr. Funck, and a great grandson Funck on the way. He is also survived by a host of nephews and nieces whom he also dearly loved. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Laura Gaudet Duhon, in-laws, Sam and Marjorie Barbera, and his brothers, Russell Ford, Danny Edward and Steve Duhon, Manuel, Joe and Phillip Alima. He was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in French Settlement and the Blessed Eugene Council of the Knights of Columbus. For years, he & Jean were members of the Committee on Cultural Affairs between Gonzales and Meylan France. They enjoyed many trips to France and made lifelong friends. In addition to his love for his family, he also loved the water, whether it was fishing, or just sitting on his pier. He loved anything to do with wood and enjoyed carving and working at his sawmill, making items his family will forever treasure. He was a true Cajun and loved his heritage. His death has left us all heartbroken, but our hearts are all full of precious memories. A visitation for Richard will be held Monday, December 11, 2023 from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 15710 La Highway 16, French Settlement, Louisiana 70733, followed by a Mass of Christian burial at 11:00 AM.
