

A resident of Gonzales and native of Dreyfus, LA, passed away on Sunday, April 13, 2014 at his home. He was 87 and veteran of WWII having served in the U.S. Navy. He was an avid outdoorsman and a collector of unique items. He loved entertaining and having family and friends around him. He was an usher at St. Theresa of Avila Catholic Church and was a 4th Degree Knight with the local Knights of Columbus Council. He also served on various professional and civic organizations. He is survived by his daughters, Roxann and husband Kenny Barras, Jennifer Philippe, and Andrea and husband A. Rawls Sides; sons, Robert R. Philippe Jr., Timothy Philippe, Edward and wife Louise Philippe; brother, Doyle F. "Smokey" Philippe; 14 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Viola Ann Braud Philippe; parents, Raymond and Arlene Lapeyrolerie Philippe; a sister and four brothers. Visiting will be at Ourso Funeral Home, Gonzales, Tuesday, April 15, 2014 from 5 pm until 9 pm, with recitation of the Rosary at 7 pm followed by the Knights of Columbus 4th Degree Honor Guard. Visitation will resume at the funeral home on Wednesday from 10 am until 1:00 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will follow at St. Theresa of Avila Catholic Church at 1:30 pm., with the Rev. Matt Dupuis, celebrant. Entombment to follow in Hope Haven Mausoleum, Gonzales. Pallbearers will be James Stone, Gregory Stone, Justin Courrégé, Michael Philippe, Zachary Sides, and Deuce Harrison. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
