Roy Stuart Lewis

Mr. Roy S. Lewis died peacefully at his home on Thursday, June 13, 2013, he was 78 He was a native of Bolivar, LA and a resident of Ascension Parish for over 47 years. Visitation will be held at Ourso Funeral Home, Gonzales on Sunday, June 16 from 5 pm to 8 pm. A celebration of his life will be held on Monday, June 17 at Ascension Baptist Church, 13432 Airline Hwy, Gonzales, with visitation from 9 am until services at 11 am., officiated by Rev. T.W. Terral and Rev. Dwayne Smith, and Rev. Phillip Willis. Burial to follow in Oak Lane Memorial Park in Prairieville. Roy was born on December 28, 1934 in Bolivar, LA to Otis and Ruth Stuart Lewis. He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Ray Lewis and Bobby Lewis. He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years Ruby Daigle Lewis; their children, Rhonda Lewis, Randy Lewis and wife, Kelli Wingett Lewis, and Jeff Lewis and wife, Sue Ellen Howell Lewis. He is also survived by their beautiful granddaughters, Ashley Renee Lewis, Anna Elizabeth Lewis, and Grace Elizabeth Lewis and favorite grandson Andrew Ryan Lewis. His grandchildren were the joy of his life. He enjoyed every minute spent with them. He was a source of support and encouragement to them in all of their activities. Roy was owner of Gonzales Tire Co., Inc. which was established in June, 1966. He loved working in the business and being part of the Ascension Parish community. He believed in treating all people with fairness, dignity, and respect. Roy's love for God and the church was constant and strong. He lived out his faith in every area of his life. He most enjoyed teaching Sunday school and the study of God's Word. In the past several years, Roy has been a part of a men's Bible Study group, "Band of Brothers" which was a source of friendship, joy and strength in his life. Pallbearers are Randy Lewis, Jeff Lewis, Andrew Lewis, Russell "Rex" Robinson, Robert Malbrough, Garrett Laiche, Tommy Edwards, and Kermit "Hart" Bourque. Honorary Pallbearers are Ann Bell, Randall Cope, Don Daigle, Pat Dixon, Gene Parrish, Walter Hastings, and "Band of Brothers" Bible Study Group. The family wishes to thank friends and extended family who have been supportive and encouraging during Roy's illness. The family would also like to thank St. Joseph Hospice and all who ministered to them during these past several difficult days and Dr. David Hanson and the staff of Mary Bird Perkins for their wonderful care.
