

Sophie Hernandez Ducote, a native of White Castle, a member of St. John The Evangelist of Prairieville, and life-long resident of Ascension Parish, passed away on Friday, February 5, 2016 at the age of 90. Sophie was a past member of the VFW Post 3693, Disabled American Veteran Auxiliary, and served with the St. John’s Ladies Altar Society. As a seamstress, she really enjoyed quilting with her sisters. She is survived by her daughters, Evelyn Babin (Melvin), Audrey Boudreaux (Joey), Judy Ducote-Long (Michael), Debbie Ducote ; sister, Mabel Poche; sisters-in-law, Rita Hernandez and Charlotte Hernandez; grandchildren, Angela Babin Troxclair, Todd Balfantz, Wade Babin, Chet Boudreaux, Adam Butler Ducote, Eric Boudreaux, Jareson Dowdy, and Blake Dowdy; 13 great-grandchildren; 1 great great-grandson. She is preceded in death by her loving husband, F.A. Ducote; parents, Jeff and Faustine Hernandez; sisters, Bella Kelley, Esma Higgins, Bessie Lambert; brothers, Nelcon, Whitney, and Roy(Sr.) Hernandez. Sophie found no greater joy than in the rearing of children, grandchildren, and eventually, great-grandchildren. She smothered each and every baby she ever held in her arms with all the love that he or she could stand – making each of them a stronger, more loving person. Visitation will be held on Monday, February 8, 2016 at Ourso Funeral Home of Gonzales from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm. Visitation will resume on Tuesday, February 9, 2016 at St. Theresa of Avila Catholic Church at 9:00 am until Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 am.
