He truly made a circle of life having been born on the Donaldson Tract Plantation in Burnside.
Upon his retirement he returned to that property to live out the rest of his years. Tom was a 1944 graduate of Ascension Catholic High School in Donaldsonville. At age 16 he began his Electrical Engineering studies at Southwestern Louisiana Institute in Lafayette.
Upon graduation he started his career at Louisiana Power and Light Company, now Entergy Corporation. In 1950, at the beginning of the Korean War, Tom volunteered for duty with the United States Navy. He attended Naval Officers Candidate School in Monterey, California and was commissioned Ensign upon completion of the program. He served his country aboard the U.S. S. Los Angeles. Tom was honorably discharged and returned to employment with the power company in various capacities in both North and South Louisiana. Tom's interests and accomplishments included serving as a lector at Catholic Mass, woodworking, square foot gardening, performing in Little Theatre productions, writing his recollections about life on the plantation and traveling to learn about other cultures and their lifestyles. He was still golfing in his 90's and shot his age over and over again.
Tom was an excellent cook and enjoyed putting together an eclectic menu for his guest. Who could ever forget his crab cakes?
He is preceded in death by his parents Jean Clovis Robert and Marie Bernadette Troxclair Robert and his brother Noah Dominique Robert. He is survived by his loving wife, Saundra, and his devoted Arizona Family.
A Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, January 17, 2024 at 11:00AM at St. Anne Catholic Church, 7348 Main St. Sorrento, LA 70778. Hope Haven Cemetery in Gonzales is his final resting place.
