Verna Smiley Braud Arceneaux Verna was born in Lake, Louisiana on May 30, 1929 and was a resident of Gonzales, Louisiana. She was received by our Lord at the age of 91 on February 20, 2021. Verna is survived by her sons Gary Braud (Judy), James “Jimmy” Braud and Keith Braud, daughter-in-law Cynthia Braud, Cynthia Arceneaux Moran (Wade); grandchildren, Connie Woolridge and Clint Braud; Darren, Dwayne and Jacey Braud; Jamie Ward and Genie Adair; Jeremy and Jonathan Jouette, Elijah, Judah and Ellah Moran; great-grandchildren, Ethan and Casey Woolridge, Randall and Anjali Jouette, Ja’lyn Braud, Colin and Kendall Braud, Kristin Braud, Bennett and Carter Ward, and Oliver and Elliot Adair. She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and family members. She was predeceased by her husbands, James Edward “Eddie” Braud and Able Joseph Arceneaux, son Perry Braud, daughter Debra Ann Jouette and son-in-law Carlos Randall “Randy” Jouette, brothers Isiah, Mert, Andrew “CJ” Clinton Smiley, and Jimmy Smiley, Sr., sister Athalie Smiley Williams, and parents Elwin Brignac Smiley and Andrew Clinton Smiley, Sr. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a visitation at Ourso Funeral Home in Gonzales on Thursday, February 25, 2021 from 8:30AM till 10:15AM. There will be the recitation of the Rosary at 10:30AM followed by Mass at 11AM at St. Mark’s Catholic Church. The interment will follow at Lake Community Cemetery. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, everyone is asked to wear a mask and social distance. Family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to the caring staff at LifeSource Hospice. In lieu of flowers, the family requests a donation to the charity of your choice.

Gary and Family,
I was so sorry to read of Ms. Verna’s passing.
Like our parents, she lived a long, full life.
