

Verna Mae Ducote, 97, a native and resident of Gonzales, LA, passed away on Tuesday, November 26, 2024. Verna Mae was born to the late Garfield Paul Arceneaux Sr. and Mirza Bercegeay Arceneaux. She graduated from Gonzales High School in 1944 and devoted her life to being a homemaker and loving mother and wife. Verna Mae was preceded in death by her husband, Merlin J. Ducote, as well as her siblings, Garfield Paul Arceneaux Jr., Joseph Arceneaux, and Loretta Arceneaux. She is survived by her children: Tommy Ducote (Jill), Steve Ducote (Anita), Van Ducote (Jan), Doreen Weir (David), and Stacey Ducote; her grandchildren: Brian Ducote, Tyson Ducote, Jamie Liotto, Alison Parisey, Kerry Stokes, Rebecca O'Neal, Jordan Ducote, Patrick Long, Kaylee Aderholt, Jesse Ducote, and Mali Ducote; great-grandchildren, Maranda Bourgeois, Berkley Liotto, Haley Severin, Haley Turner, Cullen Ducote, Avery Ducote, Ireland Ducote, Wyatt Parisey, Avelyn Parisey, Aryana Ducote, Eilyn Ducote, Bradley O'Neal, Layla O'Neal, Holden Vara, Jack Aderholt, and Ariah Ducote; and great-great-grandchildren, Arden Bourgeois and Elias Severin. She is also survived by her sisters, Irma Keller and Theresa Gautreau. A visitation will be held at Ourso Funeral Home, 13533 Airline Hwy., Gonzales, LA 70737, on Saturday, November 30, 2024, from 10:00 AM until service time at 11:00 AM. Burial will follow at Hope Haven Garden of Memory on Hwy 30. Pallbearers honored to serve are: Cullen Ducote, Jesse Ducote, Karl Keller, Brian Ducote, Jordan Ducote, and Tyson Ducote. The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to Verna Mae’s primary caregiver, Tina Lambert, her night nurse, Cristy Pitre, and all the other caregivers who assisted her. Special thanks also to Dr. Paul Aguillard, whom she held in high regard, and Hospice of Baton Rouge for their guidance and support during this time.
