OBITUARY
Anna M. Nichols
September 17, 1933 – January 16, 2021
Anna M. Nichols was born on September 17, 1933 in Old Hickory, Tennessee and passed away peacefully on January 16, 2021 at ALIVE Hospice in Nashville, Tennessee with her son Eddie Nichols, her brother Wayne Caruthers and her niece Julie Hoover by her side.
Ann, as she preferred to be called, was preceded in death by her parents Norman Mitchell Caruthers and Martha Jane Jones Caruthers, her sister Linda Gail Caruthers Morris (James) and her husband of over 50 years James Edward Nichols.
For over 40 years Ann and her husband were the proprietors of the Graystone Motel and Campground of Goodlettsville, Tennessee. They were also partners in numerous other business ventures including mobile home parks, gift shops, a restaurant, and numerous commercial real estate ventures across the state of Tennessee.
Ann’s greatest passions were her family , and the wide array of friends she acquired over the span of her life, each of whom became a cherished part of her extended family.
Ann will be remembered by all who were fortunate enough to have known her for her wide array of interests, her insatiable curiosity, her sharp and inciteful intelligence, her warm and welcoming maternal nature, her quiet grace, her fierce loyalty to those she loved, her generosity of spirit, her sharp attention to detail, her business acumen and above all for being a steadfast and faithful friend.
She loved to laugh, laughed often and was intensely sentimental.
Ann is survived by her adoring son James E. Nichols, Jr. ( aka Eddie), her sisters Roberta Caruthers Garrett (William), Norma Jean Caruthers Smiley (Kenneth), her brother Mitchell Wayne Caruthers ( Marie), her beloved nieces and nephews, her loving cousin Juanita Jefferson, her cousins from across the country , her cherished friends Beverly and Stanley Curtis, Brandon and Joannie Smithson, Mrs. Ann Howard and countless others who’s names are too numerous to mention.
Ann will be missed more than mere words can express, will forever be remembered with love, and will live on through the shared stories of those she leaves behind , stories which will reflect the rich tapestry that was her life.

I will always remember “Eddie’s mom” with much affection. At a challenging and hopeful time in our youth at NYU, she freely showed us much love, kindness and respect - more than many other loved ones or strangers were willing to give at that time. Ann will always hold a very special place in my heart. May she Rest In Peace.

There are many happy memories I have of Aunt Ann. She was a loving aunt who was a joy to be around and always made us feel welcomed. We will miss her dearly, but will be ever grateful and proud to be a part of her family. Love, Cherie, Randy and Garrett

Eddie, it goes without saying that we loved your Mom very much. She was always there on our many trips “home”. Her home was a place for family and friends to gather. Remember the Jamboree at New Years. The phone would ring and she would say “that will be Eddie”. We will miss her very much and cherish our many memories.

Ann was one of the sweetest and most kindhearted human beings I have ever met. I only had the privilege of being in her company a few times, but she left an indelible impression. I thought of her often. I will think of her still. Condolences to her family and friends.

Dearest Eddie, your mom was a very kind and decent person and I always felt that she was a part of my family. I always tell the story of her getting me Vince Gill's autograph because she knew I loved country music and I still have it even though it's been about 25 years. She will be missed and you are both in my prayers. May God bless her soul.

Pam and I got to know Anna through her son Eddie. His love for her was just endless, boundryless. Whenever Eddie even mentioned his mom's name even in mid-sentence, or if he said the word mom his face would light up and come alive, really alive and our topic would change directions. He'd regale mom stories and adventures and recent ich conversations with her; and if every Eddie vanished we always knew which direction he took. Eddie, Pam and I never met your mom but you made her a living soul for us, and a loving warm dedicated pure sincere person like you.
Thank you Eddie for introducing us and bringing her into our lives.
Our hearts go out to you and your extended families.
Much love,

I didn’t know Ann Nichols, but I met her son Eddie, who was a great and loyal friend of my mother’s. In knowing Eddie I could see how well he was raised, to connect with and care about people. Ann must have been a special mother to have raised a special guy like Eddie.
