Betsy Waller Beazley, RN, age 63, of Nashville passed away on Tuesday, February 1st at Vanderbilt University Hospital following a battle with Covid. Betsy was born on Tuesday, January 27, 1959 in Nashville. She is preceded in death by her parents William Houston Waller Sr. and Katie Charlene Waller. She is survived by her brother Butch (Marla) Waller, daughters Virginia (Daniel) Sullivan and Taylor (Jonathan) Giurintano, as well as her two grandchildren Jasper and Maristella.
A Nashville native, Betsy graduated from Pioneer Christian Academy and subsequently obtained her nursing degree from Belmont University. As a child she developed a love for animals of all kinds, but she was especially drawn to horses, participating in equestrian activities throughout her youth. She spent four years in Memphis working as a nurse at Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital, where she was a member of the life flight team. Betsy returned to Nashville in 1986 where she worked as a registered nurse at the Vanderbilt University Monroe Carrell Jr. Children’s Hospital until the time of her passing. In her 35 year career as a nurse at Vanderbilt, she worked in numerous roles including the Children’s Emergency Department, pre-anesthesia testing, and most recently as part of the vascular access team, placing difficult IVs and PICC lines.
While she loved her career as a nurse, Betsy’s true calling was as a devoted mother to her two girls, Virginia and Taylor, and grandmother or “Bitsy” to her grandchildren Jasper and Maristella. However, her love did not stop with her own children and grandchildren, but reached to her extended family and friends, notably the Estrada family, whose children Giancarlo, Gemma, Gianluca, and Gianna whom she loved like her own.
In light of the current COVID-19 pandemic, there will be no visitation service at this time, but a celebration of life will be planned in the coming months.
In lieu of flowers, her family requests that donations be made in her name to either the Nashville Humane Society, Vanderbilt University Monroe Carrell Jr. Children’s Hospital, or a charity of your choice.
