Betty Spencer Childress

Betty Spencer Childress entered into eternal peace Wednesday, January 6, 2021. She was born Wednesday, October 9, 1940 in Norfolk, VA to Elbert and Frances Spencer.

She graduated from Central High School in Painter, VA in 1958. Betty was married to Ron on October 9, 1960 on the Eastern Shore of Virginia. Betty and Ron embarked on a journey to travel the world via the United States Airforce. They lived in Virginia, Guam, Mississippi, California, Thailand, Alabama, Bolivia, and Panama before settling down in Versailles, KY. Betty and Ron eventually made their way to Middle Tennessee where they stayed for over 44 years. Never wanting to retire, Betty worked for the past 18 years at Cumberland Family Practice in Hendersonville, TN.

Betty was an active member of First Baptist Church in Goodlettsville, TN. She enjoyed sewing, going to the beach, but her biggest joy in life was spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Betty was preceded in death by her husband Ron Childress; parents Norris and Frances Crockett; her sister Frances; and her brother Buddy.

Betty is survived by her brother Richard, son John (Marla), her daughter Mary and grandchildren, Matt, Jay (Heather), Brett (Jessica), Alyssa, Allie, and Spencer. She was also the great-grandmother to Diem, Colson, Baylen and Jett.

A memorial service will be held at First Baptist Church, 613 South Main Street Goodlettsville, TN Monday, January 11, 2021. Family will receive visitors from 11:30 to 1:00 in the lobby of the church. A Celebration of Life will follow beginning at 1:00.

In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial donations be made to the Shriners Children’s Hospitals 2900 North Rocky Point Dr, Tampa FL 33607.

Betty gave me my first medical job at Green Hills Medical Clinic In 1993 and believed in me enough to become a manager. She was a Extremely talented Administrator and mentor. I only wish we could have connected after all these years. I pray for her family during this sad loss. She will truly be missed.
