Born in Todd County, Kentucky to the late William and JoReed (Slaughter) McGehee, Betty is also preceded in death by her infant son, Jerry Wayne Wiles; brother-in-law, Lloyd Tucker and her nephew, Bill Tucker.
She is survived by her husband, G.W. Smith, Jr.; children, Mary Downey (Dennis), JonThomas Wiles (Erica), Cindy Lee (Kenny) and Greg Smith; 6 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; sisters, Pat Petrie (George) and Rebeccah Tucker; niece Vicky Noffsinger (Matt) and nephew Greg Petrie (Amy); as well as, a host of beloved extended family and dear friends.
A graduate of Muhlenberg Central High School, Betty grew up on a farm near there before leaving home to attend Business College in Bowling Green, KY. She was always a hard worker, sometimes holding two jobs at a time. Her career as a corporate accountant allowed Betty to meet many interesting people in her life.
Betty was a member of Dickerson Road Baptist Church in Nashville before moving her residence to Heaven. Giving her heart to Jesus around the age of 12, Betty was a devoted Christian throughout her life and always able to find a church to worship in, wherever she lived.
A visitation for Betty will be held Thursday, November 2, 2023 from 11am to 2pm with funeral chapel service to begin at 2pm at Eastland Funeral Home, 904 Gallatin Road, Nashville, TN.
Interment will occur 11am on Friday, November 3, 2023 at New Harmony-Bivins Cemetery in Todd County, KY.
