David William Bishop Jr.

A long-time New Yorker and a product of the New York City school system, David joined the United States Air Force. While in the military, David became a meteorologist where he served honorably for five-plus years. During post-military service, David worked as the lead meteorologist for JFK International Airport and the weather station, in Manhattan, New York, combining over 30 years of service before retiring with great honor. Anyone who knew David knew that he had a work ethic like no other.

David Bishop and Jacqueline Bethea married on October 18th,1986. In 1988, David and Jacqueline (Jackie) moved to Nashville, Tennessee, living amongst family and friends. David began delivering medical supplies for various companies around middle Tennessee before ultimately settling at Reeves-Sain, in Murfreesboro, TN, for nearly 20 years until becoming ill in 2020, at the age of 88.

David was a devoted member and trustee of Mt. Vernon Missionary Baptist Church for many years. David loved his church family and his pastor, Bishop Willie H. Joy, and first lady, Dr. Rejeaner Joy. Other than playing golf with friends or traveling, David loved telling Jackie to get out of his “man cave” so he could read the New York Times and listen to baseball on his computer. David often loved to listen to jazz music while watching his westerns on the television.

David William Bishop Jr. is survived by his brother Kenneth Bishop Richmond, VA. His sons Darryl (Linda) Bishop Alvarado, TX, Gary (Audrey) Bishop Atlanta, GA, Craig Bishop, Los Angeles, CA, Bruce (Sharita) Bishop Atlanta, GA, and stepson, Jeffrey (Katrina) Bethea Mt. Juliet, TN. David is also survived by sixteen grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and devoted friend, Robert Farley. With loving memories, David will be missed by many.

A visitation for David will be held Friday, January 12, 2024 from 12pm to 2pm, with a funeral chapel service to begin at 2pm and burial to follow, all at Forest Lawn Funeral Home & Memorial Gardens, 1150 South Dickerson Road, Goodlettsville, TN.
