David Wayne Lovell

After a 5 year battle with cancer, David Lovell was healed on Thursday, January 25. He was born on December 19, 1959, in Nashville, TN to Sherry (Smiley) and John Lovell; his father predeceases him. He grew up in Ridgetop, TN with his brother Jeffrey Lovell, surrounded by his many aunts, uncles, and cousins. David attended Wautauga in Ridgetop and Greenbrier schools in TN, and was a member of the 1977 Greenbrier graduating class.

David had an impressive amateur and pro motocross career. He was a nature lover and said he felt closest to God when he was outside. Besides his family and friends, his greatest love was hunting waterfowl, turkey, dove, and pheasant.

David was a talented frame carpenter, and in the mid-80s he started his own company, DL Construction. His skill and work ethic made him highly sought after.

In 1984 he married Stacy Allison. He considered their children, Elizabeth and Samuel, his greatest accomplishment. He loved his children-in-law Buck Freeman and Jessica Lampley Lovell like his own. What gave him the greatest amount of happiness were his grandchildren. He was Pappy to Beau, Scout, Mack Freeman, and Wilder Lovell. They were his inspiration during his cancer fight.

David had many friends and family members who were very dear to him. He cherished his mother, his first love, and his brother Jeffrey, his first friend.  He also loved his siblings-in-law and their spouses: Sloan and Vance Hudson, Joe and Machelle Allison, and John and Connie Allison. He was also very close to cousins Lisa Reasoner, Trena Bradshaw, Troy Smiley, and Susan Lord.  He thought of his hunting buddies and friends as family and always ended conversations with them saying, “I love you brother.”

We should all follow the example of David's life. He was kind to everyone, was rarely negative or angry, and he would help anyone who needed it. At the beginning of his cancer journey, he adopted Romans 12:12 as his battle verse, and he certainly lived it out. “Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, and faithful in prayer.”

David will be celebrated during a memorial service on February 18 at the Nashville Gun Club. The gathering will be from 2:00-4:00, and the service will start at 2:30. All are welcome to share their favorite David Lovell memory.
