Mrs. Sowell was born in Taft, TN on Wednesday, December 21, 1932, the daughter of the late Willie and Carrie (née Wilbanks) Hentz. She was a graduate of Blanche HS in 1951, and moved to Nashville shortly after to attend business college. She married her late husband, Flint, in October of 1953 where they made a loving home for their daughter and the neighborhood children on Cardinal Ave. She was a vibrant member of East End United Methodist on Holly St. for over 65 years. Doris led a very successful career of 42 years as an engineering clerk and drafting artist with BellSouth. After her retirement, she volunteered at Tristar Skyline Medical Center. As with everything she approached in life with vigor and determination, she was awarded Skyline's Volunteer of The Year in 2002.
Mrs. Sowell was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, Enoch (Flint) Sowell; and her siblings, Francis Thompson of Fayetteville; Bobby Hentz of Houston, TX; and Clyde Wayne (Joe) Hentz of Hermitage.
Doris is survived by her daughter, Sharon Bauman of Nashville; her two grandsons, Erick (Mandy) of Nashville and Matthew (Chris) of Hilton Head Island, S.C.; and her three great-grandchildren Smith, Gray, and Ever.
A Celebration of Life will be held graveside on Sunday, October 4, 2020, at 1:45pm at Forest Lawn Funeral Home and Memorial Gardens at 1150 S. Dickerson Rd. Goodlettsville, TN
In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests that memorial contributions be made in Mrs. Sowell's honor to the Disaster Relief Fund of East End United Methodist Church at 1212 Holly St. Nashville, TN 37206.
