Eighty-one years of kinships and friendships will document the legacy of our beloved deacon, Eugene Harwell Street, who transitioned from this life on Friday, January 4, 2019. For each year of his life, a Book has been created. In each Book, there are chapters and specific pages where each of us entered his life.
He was the last child of Joseph Lawrence and Freddie Lee (Benson) Street. He was born into a blended family of both parents. Brothers, J. C. and Charles Street were his father's sons from his marriages to Sarah. Grover Love, Allie B. Love and Bessie Love Walls were siblings from teh marriage of his mother to Robert Love.
He was born Thursday, December 9, 1937 in Panola County, Mississippi, and is the last surviving child from the marriage of Joseph (Joe) and Freddie Street. His siblings from this marriage were James, Luzenia, Edward, Genora, Melvin and Earl. He is preceded in death by both parents, all of his siblings, second wife Ruth Roper Street and granddaughter, Patricia Payton.
Five children were born to his first marriage to Emma Jean (Ellis) Street; James (Frances) Street, Nashville, Tennessee, Barry (Vanessa) Street, Victor Street, Bettina Street and stepdaughter Rennilda Graham of Detroit, Michigan. Stepson, Joe Ellis and stepdaughter, Tina Marks-Wilson; eight grandchildren, Ericks Juwan, Valerie, Marvin, Ashley, Kelly and Kayla. Eight great-grandchildren; Ariyona, Daisha, Jalen, Quidorian, Destyne, Jakobi, Justiss, Jordin; sisters-in-law; Bernice Mitchell, Willie R. Brooks, Loretta Rudd, Gennie Mattock, Earlene Gaston, Ruby Guyon, Carrie Elllis, Gay Gates, Marilyn Madison, Sherry Goins. Brothers-in-law, Roy Ellis, James Ellis, West Henderson, Johnnie Cathey. Nieces, Verlene Love, Earlene Green, and Jennifer Mitchell. Nephews, Michael and Joseph Street; and a host of grand nieces and nephews and cousins. Devoted Friends, Mrs. Ann (Charles) Bluing, Mrs. Lottie White, S. Garrie White-Foote, Mr. Gary Leslie White, Henry (Dorothy) Estell and the Hicks Tabernacle Church Family.
Eugene was educated in the Panola County, Mississippi Schools, retired from Universal Tires after 35 years and was a serious baseball fan.
He accepted Christ as his personal Savior at a young age and was baptized at Shiloh Baptist Church in Courtland, Mississippi. He joined Hicks Tabernacle Missionary Baptist Church under the Pastorate of the Late Reverend W. L. White, where he served as a loyal and faithful Deacon until his death on January 4, 2019. In addition to serving as a Deacon, he served as Chairman of the Deacon Board, Superintendent of the Sunday School, member of the #2 Male Chorus, Advisor to the Usher Board and the Church Bus Driver.
Book #81; the last chapter written, but his family finds comfort in knowing that his legacy (The Street Legacy) will continue. Beyond serviced to church and love of family and friends., he embodied a loving and caring spirit to all who knew him well. As his descendants, we encourage you to revisit the Books of his Life, find the chapters where you entered, place markers on the best pages and visit them often.
Family will receive friends Friday, January 11, 2019 from 1:00 until 6:00 pm at Forest Lawn Funeral Home 1150 S. Dickerson Road in Goodlettsville, Tennessee and one hour prior to the 12:00 service Saturday, January 12, 2019 at Hicks Tabernacle Missionary Baptist Church with
A Celebration of Life will be conducted 12:00 noon with Pastor Jerry Holt officiating at Hicks Tabernacle Missionary Baptist Church 1515 Sweetbrier Ave. Nashville, Tennessee. 37212. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens.
