Gary was born and raised in Walnut Ridge, Arkansas, where he graduated as Salutatorian from Walnut Ridge High in 1959. Shortly thereafter, he joined the US Navy, serving with pride and distinction until his retirement as an Air Traffic Controller in 1978. His naval career took him all around the globe, filling him with stories of foreign lands and cultures that he loved to share with his family and friends. After retiring from the Navy, Gary settled in Memphis before finally moving to Washington, Georgia in 2017 to be closer to his son and family.
He is survived by his son, Gary Dobbs and wife Patricia of Washington; his sisters, Carolyn Gaydosh of Pennsylvania, Velma Allison of Walnut Ridge, AR, Sondra Holley of Brandon, FL, and Yvonne Bobrowski of Myrtle Beach; grandchildren, Brooke Dobbs and Josh Dobbs and his wife Nikki, as well as his great-grandchildren, Braylin, Trinity, Rylee, Ethan, Raegan, Emma, and Macie. Gary also leaves behind his faithful dog, Gabe. He was preceded in death by his wife, Marti Dobbs; his parents, Wiley and Daisy Belle Rosselot Dobbs; his sisters, Tressa Bobrowski and Madge Scarlett; his brother, Gale Dobbs; and his dog, Kayla.
Beyond his family, Gary had a passion for collecting. An avid coin and stamp collector for over 40 years, Gary took great pleasure in the hunt for a rare find and the quiet hours spent examining his treasures. He also enjoyed the simple pleasure of feeding birds, often spending hours watching them from his window. He was of the Baptist faith.
