Hessey Earl "Pete" Sorrells

Hessey Earl "Pete" Sorrells, age 87 passed away Monday, February 9, 2015. Born Tuesday, July 12, 1927 Old Hickory, TN, he is preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Jean Omohundro Sorrells; son, Joseph Andrew Sorrells; parents, Linzie and Evaline Bradley Sorrells; sisters, Millie Sorrells Beal, Newell Sorrells Hooper; brother, James Sorrells.

Much pride in family and family activities he is survived by his son, Thomas (Sherrie) Sorrells; daughter, Diane (Flip) Anderson; sister, Mae Gann; six grandchildren and multiple great and great-great grandchildren.

He retired DuPont Old Hickory, TN after 40 years of service; some of his former Old Hickory union activities included union president. He was an avid hunter and fishermen. He was a WW2 navy veteran fireman first class aboard the USS Kidd DD661 in South Pacific 1944-1945. He has participated many times in ceremonies aboard the now historical museum in Baton Rouge, Louisiana on April 11th in honor of his fellow shipmates who were killed when a kamikaze flew into the USS Kidd.

A celebration of life will be held 2:00 Friday in the chapel of Forest Lawn with Rev. Lynn Markham officiating. Burial with Navy Honors will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens.

Family and friends will gather to remember Pete at a visitation Thursday, February 12, 2015 from 2:00 until 8:00 and Friday, February13, 2015 from 11:00 until the 2:00 service.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Alive Hospice or a charity of choice.
