Coach Alsup was my 7th. grade teacher at Donelson Jr. High in the 1956-1957 school year. It was his first year of teaching.  He also coached the high school track team that year and he made me the manager of the team.  I played on the Jr. High basketball team that year Coach Alsup would sometimes come to the games.  He was very strict in the classroom and if you talked without permission , you were awarded 3 whacks with his paddle.  It only took me 3 times to finally understand to not talk without permission!  He got me a paper route in Donelson and I still don,t  know how that came about.  I saw an article  in the USA Today about Coach retiring.  I can,t recall when that was, but it was along time ago.  I was able to call his old High School and got a number to call.  We got to talk over old times for awhile and catch up about our lives.  He only taught me for that one year and then we moved to Miami Florida.  He made such a lasting impression on me to do the right thing and follow the rules.  Today is Dec 20, 2020 and I just found this notice of his passing.  I wish I had looked sooner.  If any of his children see this, just know Coach was a great person as I am sure you already know.  I wish we had had more than one year together.  I would have learned so much more.  Sorry for our loss
