James Daniel Vaughn of Goodlettsville, TN (formerly Greenville, NC) passed away at the age of 89 on Friday, November 15, 2019 in Nashville, Tennessee. James was born in Bardwell, KY on Saturday, September 13, 1930 to George & Opal Vaughn.

After school, James entered the service of the United States Marine Corps during the Korean War era. He remained in the service for 4 years before being honorably discharged. In 1952, he began working at Mason Plan Financial Institute. He later moved on to become an air traffic controller with the FAA. Jim had a passion for flying even at a young age. This passion lead him to leave the FAA to become a corporate pilot for the remainder of his career.

Jim is survived by his brother Leon Vaughn; 4 children: James D. Vaughn Jr (Shirley), Barbara Jean Buiter (Mike), Susan Kaye Diemer (Bill), Monica Futrall; 5 grandchildren: Rebecca Joy Buiter, Rachel Hansen (Mark), Robin Lynn Harbison (Joe), Amberlie Kristen Ballinger (Bill), Charlie Diemer; 8 great-grandchildren: Nathan & Aaron Ballinger, Ally, Jacob, Luke & Isiah Hansen, Beckham & Zoe Harbison.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mickey Vaughn, Mother, Opal Bailey Vaughn, Father, George Vaughn, Sister, Marie Johnson, Brother, Thomas Vaughn, Sister, Catherine Barcam.

A Celebration of Life will be conducted 12:00 Tuesday, November 19, 2019 in the chapel at Forest Lawn Funeral Home with Bro. Mike Trotter officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens.

Family and friends will gather to remember Mr. Vaughn at a visitation Monday, November 18, 2019 from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm and Tuesday November 19, 2019 from 11:00 am until the 12:00 service at Forest Lawn Funeral Home 1150 South Dickerson Pike, Goodlettsville, TN 37072.
