Monday, June 13, 1932- Monday, August 3, 2020
Joe Patterson was born on Short Mountain in Cannon County, Tennessee, to Ora Lee and Robert Patterson on Monday, June 13, 1932, passed away Monday, August 3, 2020. On April 9, 1953, he married the only woman he ever loved, Mary Ann. Together they raised four children in Goodlettsville, Tennessee, where they had lived for 56 years. Joe has been described by many as the hardest working man they had ever met. Joe was a loyal man. He was a man of integrity. His word was his bond. Joe and Mary Ann were faithful members of First Baptist Church Goodlettsville for almost 60 years. Joe retired from the Ford Glass Plant in Nashville after 35 years of loyal service. Joe Patterson loved his country. He served in the United States Navy from July, 1950-June, 1954.
Joe is survived by four children Michael Patterson (Donna) of Tulsa, OK; Rick Patterson (Kim) and Todd Patterson (Michelle) both of White House, TN; and Jennifer Graves (Jimmy) of Jackson, TN.; ten grandchildren: Julie Forrest and Chris Patterson (Tulsa), Justin Patterson, Kellen Patterson, Faith Patterson-Johns, Anthony Patterson, Olivia Sells, Felix Riggs; Josh and Elizabeth Graves (Memphis); nine great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Mary Ann Lamberth Patterson who passed away just 12 days prior; two great-grandsons, Sam and Henry Forrest (Tulsa); his parents Ora Lee and Robert Patterson; three brothers, Wayne, Franklin and Robert Patterson, Jr.
Joe loved his family more than anything else on this earth. In the later years he took such incredible care of Mary Ann. He was her caregiver. It gave him purpose. When asked about it, he simply said, “That’s what families do. They take care of each other.” He was proud that his three sons all worked at Ford, as he did. He loved that his daughter went to college and pursued advanced degrees. He loved the grandchildren spending time at their house. He was the epitome of the greatest generation.
A Celebration of Life will be conducted 12:00 Saturday, August 8, 2020 at First Baptist Church Goodlettsville with Bro. Lyle Larson officiating. Burial with Navy Honors will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens.
