John was born on March 28, 1928 to John and Elizabeth Magee in Memphis, TN. After John graduated from Hirsch High School in 1946, he enlisted with the Marine Corps, where he honorably served from 1946-1949.
Following his service, he went on to study Business at Northwestern University. After graduating with a degree in 1952, he went on to work for Linotype, transitioning the company from typesetting to computer fonts over the years.
In 1990, John retired and spent his time acting as the caretaker of the Palos Sportsman Club. He was able to spend his time training his hunting dogs, Barney and Buck, and took many trips around the country with his friends. He spent his free time creating intricately detailed replicas of various soldiers and decoy ducks, bird watching, and reading many books.
John was predeceased by his parents, John and Elizabeth, and his younger brother Frank. He is survived by his niece, Catherine; his nephews, Scott, Blake, Doug, and Andrew, and their families. His humor and songs will be greatly missed.
Services will be held at Forest Lawn Funeral Home on Friday, April 15, at 3:00. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Puppies Behind Bars, an organization John felt strongly about. This organization helps to train service dogs for wounded veterans, as John loved his dogs like his children and would hope to help others who served. A celebration of life will be held at a later date, when more family and friends are available to remember John.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.ForestLawnFuneral-Goodlettsville.com for the Magee family.
