He was preceded in death by his parents, Jesse Roy and Mary Helen Moulton Binkley, and nine of his 11 siblings.
He is survived by his sister Anna Gregory( Donald), and Roy Harold Binkley (Kitty) and a host of nieces and nephews.
He is also survived by his sweetheart, Shirley Ann Clark, whom he wed June 4, 1960 in Florence, Alabama. They were only 15 and 18 years old when they married, and they have stood by each other through thick and thin, by the grace of God. Their love and devotion to one another is an example of how the Lord intended marriage to be, He was their center and no matter what happened they honored their commitment to one another and to their Savior.
This union of 58 years produced the answer to many years of prayer, when on September 21, 1975, Shirley gave birth to their twin daughters Amanda Melton (Michael) and Suzanna Gilmore (Cisco). Throughout the years Michelle Midgett Popilek (Ryan) had become like a daughter and sister to us as well.
He leaves behind his five grandchildren, Jasmine Thomas, Lilly Thomas, Cort Gilmore, Shayla Melton, Dalton Melton and Rebecca Hooberry and Logan Popileck. Two great grandchildren Aiden Scott Hamby (Shayla) and Giselle Hooberry (Rebecca)
His grandchildren were a light in his life that brought him great joy and pride. His first and true love was Jesus Christ his Lord and Savior. Anyone who knew him knew that his hearts desire was that you all would come to know his Lord and Savior and experience the fullness of His love. Growing up in a family of 8 boys, stock car racing at the Nashville Fairgrounds Speedway, became a passion that they all shared together for many years. Stock car racing was the gateway that revealed his natural God given talent for sign painting and hand lettering, which became an incredible career and provision for his family which allowed Shirley to stay home and care for the twins.
This gift also lead to his daughter Amanda working side by side with him for the last 26 years as his right hand woman. Amanda considered this and honor and a privilege, he taught her so much about not only work, but about life, for this she is forever grateful. Shirley was always there at the shop to help in every way she was needed as well, and always made sure we all had what we needed at any time.
He had a great, colorful sense of humor, and was always making people laugh.
He loved to study the word of God any chance he had, and always wanted to teach others at in home bible studies, via you tube, facebook, and every conversation he had.
He and Shirley attended Madison Church of the Nazarene and spent a lifetime in devotion to the Lord.
Always seeking Gods guidance in every decision they made for their lives.
He was a loving son, brother, husband, father and grandfather. He never met a stranger. A friend and helper to anyone that was in need.
In his youth he enjoyed singing and performing rock and roll anywhere he could find a paying gig. This love and gift and God given talent for music transformed into his spreading the Gospel of Jesus through his music. He was a talented singer and songwriter with a passion for writing Gospel music so that others might be saved.
He has closed his eyes in death to this life and has been welcomed with open arms as a good and faithful servant of the Lord. Although we are painfully grieved with his absence, we rejoice in the knowledge that he is with Jesus and all of those that have gone on before him. His joy has been made complete, any hardship trial or pain was released in a moment and he is experiencing the life we all long for. Our prayer as a family, as was his is that all of you would ask Jesus into your hearts, follow Him, and lead a life in service to others and to the Lord. His legacy embodies many things, but the only one he would want remembered is his walk with Jesus.
The bible teaches us that to be absent from the body, is to be present with Christ. This is our hope and peace.
Until we meet again dad, we adore you and love you with all our hearts. We all are imagining the happiness he has experienced when he saw our Saviors face, praising the Lord today for the gift of Jesus that dad shared with everyone he met.
May you forever rest in peace.
We love you with all our hearts
Shirley, Suzanna and Amanda
