

Age 98, passed away Saturday, December 20, 2014. Born in Hardin County, TN Friday, June 16, 1916 he was preceded in death by his parents, Ella J. Bivens and Henry Hinkle Ruth; brothers, Elton, Lydle, Leland and Edward Ruth; sisters, Minnie Walton, Addie Ford, Gladys DeBerry, Avis Haltom and Faye Gleason.
He is survived by his wife of 78 years, Helen Maness Ruth; children, Ramona Ruth Harris, Brentwood, TN, Linda Lance (Jimmy), Gallatin, TN, Lawrence Ray Ruth (Rita), Monroe, GA; five grandchildren, Annette Larkin (Roger), Shannon Harris, Coleman Harris (Heather), Leah Wright (Scott), Cari Smith; eight great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.
He was a member of Meridian Street Methodist Church (then Aldersgate) where was a member of the choir for over 50 years; member of the Buena Vista Masonic Lodge, and American Legion Post 88. Ray and Helen loved to travel, especially through the western part of the country and were fortunate to have made many trips together, with their children and grandchildren.
Mr. Ruth was very proud of his military service as a Marine during WWII and enjoyed the attention from younger military when they recognized the insignia on his cap which he wore when he went out and when they saluted with a “Semper Fi” or a “thank you for your service”.
A Celebration of Life will be conducted 10:00 Tuesday, December 23, 2014 in the chapel of Forest Lawn Funeral Home with Rev. Jim Clark and Rev. Jim Norton officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will be Coleman Harris, Lance Larkin, Roger Larkin, and Scott Wright.
In lieu flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude’s or a charity of your choice.
Family and friends will gather to remember Mr. Ruth at a visitation Monday, December 22, 2014 from 3:00 until 8:00 at Forest Lawn Funeral Home 1150 South Dickerson Road, Goodlettsville, TN 37072
