Marjorie Nance, age 82, passed away in the early hours of 9/11/2018 surrounded by her family. She was a devoted Christian woman whose love for her family was unconditional. She was known as ‘Nana’ to her close family, and she was known as ‘Margie’ to her many friends.
Our Mom had a great love of life and travel. She took many trips from coast to coast and international as well. Picnic lunches on roadside parks were the norm for her, not the exception.
Mom enjoyed cooking and tending to her flowerbeds and baskets. Petunias were her favorite and they were always beautiful. To say she had a green thumb would be an understatement. She loved cooking cakes and pies, and she would always have something on hand just in case a visitor dropped in. Most of all, she loved to cook for others in need. If someone was sick, new to the area, or if they just needed a pick up, a pie was in the oven.
She was a faithful member of Walkers United Methodist church. She grew up there and spent the majority of her life there as well. Her father Chester Waggoner was one of the men that physically built the church. Activities including the “Forever Young” group kept her busy, planning events and field trips.
Our Mom was quite a fighter to the end. She fought off Multiple Myeloma for 10 years when the average expectancy after diagnosis was 3 years. She has asked that In Lieu of Flowers, donations be sent to Walkers United Methodist Church or the St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital as she always had a soft spot for kids.
Preceded in death by parents Chester and Margaret Waggoner, and brother Col. Mike Waggoner. Loving mother of Jamie Nance (Jane), Ken Nance (Jan), Jon Nance (Brenda), and Anita (Weldon ‘Skip’) Akins. Proud Nana of Holly Webb, Jillian Ready, Ryan Nance, Randy Nance, Olivia Akins, Julia Akins, Kevin Woolery, Chris Woolery, Spence Barnes, and Elizabeth Barnes.
