Marla Beth Luthy Breedlove, 61, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on August 20, 2026, after a twenty-two-month battle with pancreatic cancer. Born January 29, 1965, in Lebanon, Missouri, Marla was a woman of steadfast faith and a spirit of contentment, resilient in times of hardship and deeply devoted to those she loved.
Marla dedicated her life to teaching and nurturing children. For thirty-one years, she was the owner and operator of MarlaLand Childcare from her home, where she taught and loved hundreds of children throughout the years. She gave them an early education in numbers, letters, and shapes, a safe and joyful place to play, and a warm hug to greet them each day.
Of all the roles Marla held, none was more treasured than being Mom to Brian, Brandon, and Brittney. She was their devoted cheerleader, a constant presence at sporting events and milestones, and their number one supporter through every season of life. Most importantly, she planted the roots of a deep and lasting faith that each of her children would grow to make their own. That same love for motherhood carried into her role as Grandma to Lucas, a title she cherished and a little boy she loved immensely.
When she was not teaching or caring for children, Marla enjoyed baking her famous Marla Bread, reading, and getting together with friends to play dominoes and card games. A homebody at heart, she was perfectly content staying close to home but always enjoyed a getaway to Gatlinburg or Pigeon Forge with her family. She loved Mexican food and could most often be found dressed practically in a comfortable outfit and trusty pair of sneakers.
A dedicated member of Northside Church of Christ, she was present nearly every time the doors were open. She worshiped faithfully, taught children’s classes, worked in the nursery, volunteered at Vacation Bible School and church camp, and enjoyed ladies’ nights and countless other church gatherings.
Marla was preceded in death by her parents, James and Lenora Luthy, and her sister, Joy Luthy.
She is survived by her children, Brian (Wendy) Breedlove, Brandon (Savannah) Breedlove, and Brittney (Jackson)Denton; her grandson, Lucas Denton; brother, Jay (Ruth) Luthy; and sister, Marcia Ray.
Visitation will be held at Northside Church of Christ, 1375 Old Hickory Blvd, Nashville, Tennessee, on August 28, 2026, from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm, followed by a Celebration of Life beginning at 2:00 pm. Burial will take place at Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens in the Garden of Love.
