Marshall Gene Flowers, age 83, of Whites Creek, Tennessee passed away on Saturday, August 13, 2022. Marshall was born Wednesday, January 11, 1939 in Bucksnort, Tennessee. Marshall was preceded in death by his wife of 31 years, Carolyn; parents, Jesse James and Clara Miller Flowers; his siblings, Thomas, Mary Luella, James, Roy, Porter, Dennis, Clint, Raymond, Glenn and Elizabeth Louise.
Raised on a farm in Bucksnort, Tennessee, he was one of 11 children and learned from an early age the values of a good work ethic. He had the greatest smile and when he was capable, he would help anyone in need. Marshall told the most animated stories of growing up and experiences he had. He was called Mr. Flowers, Mr. Marshall and just Marshall but his most loved people called him "Paw-Paw!”
Marshall was a dedicated worker starting out on the farm then the sawmill before moving to Nashville for factory work. In his younger days, he loved hunting and then later going to the Turkey shoots in Joelton winning trophies, turkeys and hams. In the 60's he opened Flowers Texaco Station in Whites Creek where he would do anything his customers needed and could repair any vehicle. He hired many of the local teenage boys and taught them much more than how to pump gas. He loved to take Carolyn to the airport with a picnic lunch and watch the planes land. He was devoted to his family, friends and loved his grands. However, in his final years he just wanted his recliner, puzzles and bluegrass television shows. His all-time favorite foods were Christy’s catfish, chicken and dumplings at Country Junction in Joelton.
Marshall is survived by his daughters, Donna Harbison and Connie Roseman; granddaughters, Lindsey Harbison, Ashley (Daniel) Yaeger; great-granddaughters, Violet, Emmy, Avery, Shelby and numerous nephews and nieces who lovingly referred to him as “Uncle Marshall”. Marshall was grateful for the loving care and dedication that Donna and Connie showed him in his final years. He was so appreciative for all they did to keep him happy, healthy and safe in his own home.
A graveside service for Marshall will be held Friday, August 19, 2022 at 10:00 AM at Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens, Goodlettsville, Tennessee with Bro. David Royalty officiating.
Sincerest gratitude to First Baptist Joelton and Joelton Church of Christ for providing lunch meals and visits, especially his sweet friend, "Ms. Pauline". Also, a special thank you to his granddaughter, Lindsey, the nurses, CNAs and administration at NHC Springfield for the love and compassion shown to him in his final days. The family would also like to express our heartfelt appreciation to Dr. John Gibson, who was Marshall's long time physician and friend.
