Mary Jane McKuhen, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away on October 28, 2025. Born on March 30, 1940, in Nashville, Mary Jane lived a life filled with love, faith, and devotion to her family and community.
She is survived by her husband of 54 years, Roy McKuhen; daughters Susie Gardner and Carolyn Smith (Kurt); grandchildren Erica Duggan, Boise Duggan (Amy), Andrew Duggan (Melissa), Julia Duggan, and Daniel Duggan; great-grandchildren Kamani and Summer Duggan; siblings Betty McConnell and John Drury; and many nieces and nephews.
Mary Jane graduated magna cum laude from Vanderbilt University in 1961 and remained a steadfast Commodore fan throughout her life—she even made sure her daughters learned the Vanderbilt fight song from an early age.
She spent countless hours at the softball fields, basketball courts, and gymnastics gyms cheering on her girls. Mary Jane also loved expressing her love through her cooking. She loved making favorite meals when family came to visit.
After her daughters left home, Mary Jane taught preschool, where she was affectionately known as “Miss Mary Jane.” She also volunteered for many years delivering Meals on Wheels with her sister Betty, sharing her kindness and care with her community.
Mary Jane and Roy shared a life rich in family, travel, and love. They attended countless basketball games in support of Susie’s coaching career. They visited their grandchildren in the many states they called home, always ready to play make believe, do arts and crafts, and play games. Their church family and Circle group were central to their lives, providing deep and lasting friendships.
In recent years, Mary Jane enjoyed cheering for the Baltimore Orioles (until they traded her favorite player) and watching Wheel of Fortune.
