Mavis Virginia Brewer, age 89, of Goodlettsville, Tennessee passed away on Saturday, May 4, 2024. Mavis was born on November 18, 1934 in Neptune, Tennessee to the late James and Polly (Hagewood) McCormack. Mavis is preceded in death by her loving husband, Harold Marshall Brewer, Sr. and brothers and sisters Robert, Jean, Wayne, Jimmy, and Gary.
Mavis is survived by her sons Harold Marshall Brewer, Jr. (Tammy) and Dr. James Larry Brewer (Cherry); grandchildren Marshall, Alexander, and Jackson; as well as other beloved extended family and dear friends.
Mavis is a retired chemist with the Metro Water Department, where she worked for 43 years and is remembered for her knowledge, work ethic, and dedication to mentoring others. She was the first woman in the state of Tennessee to obtain a license for operating a water treatment plant. Mavis was previously employed at Parkwood Service Company, the Ford Glass Plant, and Knoxville Fertilizer Company.
Mavis was a long time member of the First Baptist Church of Goodlettsville and devoted her life to her faith and family. She was an incredible caregiver always ready to nurture her sick and elderly loved ones. She will be remembered for her many acts of love, devotion, and kindness as well as her positive outlook, encouragement, and boundless energy. We will forever cherish her and her memory.
A visitation for Mavis will be held Tuesday, May 7, 2024 from 4pm - 8pm and again on Wednesday, May 8 from 11am - 12pm, with a funeral chapel service to begin at 12pm and burial to follow, all at Forest Lawn Funeral Home & Memorial Gardens, 1150 South Dickerson Road, Goodlettsville, TN. Officiating the services will be Chaplain Col. Jeff Ryan, Ret. USAR and Rev. Rick Roberts. Also speaking will be Mavis’ grandson, Alex Brewer. Honored to serve as pallbearers will be Harold M. Brewer, Jr., Dr. James Larry Brewer, Marshall Brewer, Alexander Brewer, Jackson Brewer and Hannah Anderson. Mavis will be laid to rest next to her husband, Harold Sr., in Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens ~ Garden of Our Savior.
