Morris Lawson, aged 84, passed away on May 26, 2025, in the peace of Jesus Christ. Born on April 10, 1941, to J.D. and Maggie (Capps) Lawson in Nashville, TN, Morris lived a life devoted to his wife, daughters and their families, his work, his Christian faith, and to his extended family and friends.
Morris grew up in Nashville and was a graduate of Isaac Litton High School where he was in the famed “Marching 100” school band. After graduation, he joined the Army National Guard, married his high-school sweetheart Carol Sawyer, and embarked upon a 40-year career as a printer. As a Production Manager at Baird-Ward Printers, Morris was responsible for the printing of the magazines Southern Living, The Progressive Farmer, and Field and Stream. He took great pride in his work and enjoyed his many friendships with his colleagues and fellow employees.
A member of the Goodlettsville Church of the Nazarene, Morris attended the Koinonia Sunday School Class. Faithful in Christian service, he was an usher and went on mission trips with his church to help those who were devastated by Hurricane Katrina. His faith in Christ was evident to those who knew and loved him.
Morris loved attending family reunions on both sides of his family, with the Lawsons in Nashville and with the Capps Family in Eno Community, just outside of Dickson, TN. He was good friends with James Lawson, his older brother and only sibling, and his wife Margie and their daughters Karen and Letha. Morris enjoyed close relationships with his many aunts, uncles, and cousins and their families.
A proud man who had a great work ethic, Morris had a lifelong fascination with building, tinkering, and technology. He was always at work fixing things and making them work. He could repair any household item, built and sold brooms, and installed burglar alarms in homes. Morris built small machines for his own use and was often called on to fix the large printing presses in the plants where he worked as a printer. After retirement, he worked security at Opryland Hotel and with his friends helping them on their farms and with projects at their homes.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Carol (Sawyer), and his daughters Stephanie Hoskins (Steve) and Kim Medley, his granddaughters Allison Hoskins, Hannah (Jared) Jones, and Maggie Medley, and his great-grand children Jayla and Javen Jones.
Morris’ funeral will be held on Saturday, May 31, 2025, at the Goodlettsville Church of the Nazarene. The family will receive friends and loved ones from 10 a.m. until 12 p.m. and the funeral will begin at noon. Burial will be immediately after the service at Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens, 1150 S. Dickerson Road, Goodlettsville, TN 37072.
