Oliver Hebert Abernathy Jr. (Sug) was born on Monday, June 15, 1936 in Bordeaux, Tennessee, at his home. His parents, Lula Mae and Oliver Herbert Senior along with two older sisters, welcomed him. After the passing of his father when he was only 10 years old, he was raised by his mother. He met his forever love, Brenda, in 1957 and they married on June 26, 1958. They have two wonderful sons together. (Ken and Keith) Sug attended Bordeaux Elementary and Cumberland high school. After graduation he went on to obtain a 4 year bachelor's degree from MTSU, which led him to his long term career of 34 years as a data analyst for AT&T. Sug was a very caring and kind man who loved his family very much. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and friend. Sug found joy in walking horses and shows, which let him to raising, breeding, and selling his own. His family’s “vacation” every year was to Shelbyville, TN, where they would attend a 10 day walking horse event. He loved to dabble in the stock market, garden, watch football, and baseball, specifically the Vols, titans, and Atlanta braves. He also enjoyed attending his grandchildren’s sporting events.
Sug instilled hard work into his children and grandchildren and always expressed the importance of education. He was a God-fearing man whose faith was very important to him. He worked hard at all he did and was loved by all. He will be so greatly missed.
