Peggy Joyce Gregory Schroeder, age 84, left this life for heaven in her garden Tuesday, July 4, 2023. Peggy was born in Nashville Tuesday, August 20, 1938 to James Clarence Gregory and Gracie Zelma Smith Gregory. She was a proud graduate of East High class of 1956, and faithfully attended alumni reunions. Peggy worked as a bookkeeper in Nashville’s first high rise, the L & C tower until her marriage to Charles Louis Schroeder. Later she became a real estate agent and commercial broker.
Peggy’s passing came as a great shock to everyone who knew her, as she was so healthy, strong, and active. Her personality was captivating, her sense of humor was unique, she knew how to make everyone laugh, she was outspoken, and very determined. She did not like to be told “no, you can’t do that” as those words would spark her resolve to prove the naysayers wrong, nor would she allow the opposition to slow her down. She left an impression on everyone she knew. Her koi pond and flower gardens were her labor of love as well as her therapy, and her grandchildren referred to this place as “Mimi’s Sanctuary.” Sharing flowers and advice about gardening was a frequent topic with her friends. It has been told that upon a trip to The Biltmore House and Gardens, her rose gardens were said to have been every bit as magnificent even if they were commercial-free!
There was nothing she loved more than spending time with her family. Some of their fondest memories are spent on holidays and Sunday afternoons at Mimi’s. She will be greatly missed, but her family and friends have peace knowing she spent her final moments in her favorite place in her garden before her spirit was called to her heavenly home.
“Mimi”, as she was affectionately called by her adoring grandchildren, is predeceased by her parents, former spouse, and brother, James Clarence Gregory.
Surviving to cherish her memory are devoted son, Gregory Louis Schroeder and his wife, Frances Keezel; grandchildren Bradford Louis Schroeder and his wife, Karleah Gilliam; Stephanie Schroeder and fiancé Michael Aycock; one great grandchild, William Louis Schroeder; and nieces and cousins.
Peggy was a member of McFerrin Missionary Baptist Church in Madison and enjoyed the Prime Timer’s activities.
There will be a graveside service at the Forest Lawn Cemetery on Wednesday July 12, 2023 at 1:00 in Goodlettsville, Tennessee with Elder Kenneth Massey officiating.
In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the McFerrin Missionary Baptist Church Building Fund.
