East Nashville - Robert Doyle Jacobs, 89, died Sunday, March 28, after an extended illness. He was a loving husband, father, uncle, grandfather, and great grandfather, and friend to almost everyone he met.
A talented musician and songwriter, he also was known at almost every golf course in the southeast.
Robert was born in 1931 to Robert and Eula Jacobs in Decatur, AL. He moved to Nashville with hopes of making his name in the music industry. During the 1950s and early 1960s, he wrote music and played with some of the legends of country music. He even had his own weekly country music television show on WBKO-TV in nearby Bowling Green, KY. However, with two children to raise, Robert set aside his personal dreams to care for his family.
Although he worked traditional jobs, on weekends he was a fixture at the famous nightspots up and down Broad St., sitting in with the bands for the next 30 years. When time allowed during the day, you could find him on the closest golf course.
If you were not friends with Robert at the beginning of the day, you were after you shook hands with him.
Robert is survived by his wife Sylvia, who he married in 1960, his son Robert (Meredith) and his daughter Margo. He is also survived by his granddaughter Misty, and three great grandsons, Danny, Dillon, and Dalton.
A funeral service will be conducted 2pm Friday, April 2, 2021 at Forest Lawn Funeral Home. Burial will follow in the Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens.
Visitation with the family will be held 2 hours prior to the service.
