Ruby Dale Spurlock

Ruby Dale Close Spurlock - age 91, passed away Wednesday, August 28, 2013. Born Monday, August 7, 1922 in White Hill, TN the last of her clan with the grace of God and the earthly daughter of Marcus and Paralee Allen Close; sister to, Martha Driver, Oca Gutherie, J.T. Close, Blanche Rollins, Modena and Clarice Close is now sharing in their peace. She is also preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Brownlow Spurlock.

She leave to celebrate her life a daughter, E. Dean Birdwell, Orlando, FL and son, William Ray (Joyce) Spurlock, Sr., Portland, TN; along with four grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

For over 20 years she held jobs with the State of Tennessee Unemployment Security and Mental Health Statistics. Her second family was Grace Baptist Church where she was a member for over 50 years; she loved teaching Sunday School and ministering to home bound patients and a group who served local colleges. Also for over five years, she volunteered with Baptist Hospital with terminal pediatric and elderly patients.

Funeral services will be 2:00 Tuesday, September 3, 2013 in the chapel of Forest Lawn Funeral Home with Bro. Ken Coleman officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens.

Family requests no flowers, but for memorials to be made to Grace Baptist Mission Funds 1510 Old Hickory Blvd or the Salvation Army.

Family and friends will gather to remember Mrs. Spurlock at at visitation Tuesday, September 3, 2013 from 1:00 until 2:00 at Forest Lawn Funeral Home 1150 South Dickerson Rd. Goodlettsville, TN 37072
