

FARMER, Ruth Evelyn Johnson - Died February 16, 2011, Hendersonville, TN. Ruth was born September 29, 1921, in Morriston, Florida, to Samuel Anderson Johnson and Dora Lorena Miles Johnson. The family moved to Miami, Florida, in 1923, where her dad, a carpenter, joined Miami's booming construction scene. Four sisters were born: Margaret, Marie, and Lois, all deceased, and Myrtis, who survives, and lives in Palmetto, Florida. Ruth attented Santa Clara Elementary and Ponce de Leon Junior High. She graduated from Miami Senior High School. She was the first in her family to attend college, earning an Associate's Degree from Trevecca Nazarene College (now University) in Nashville. In 1943-44, she met and married Albert Wayne Farmer of northern Los Angeles County, California. He was stationed with the U.S. Army on Miami Beach. They were married at Miami Central Church of the Nazarene, where Ruth taught four- and five-year-olds in Sunday School and served as church secretery. She and Wayne both retired from Eastern Airlines' main base in Miami. Survivors are her husband, Wayne; daughter, Esther (Everett) Hanner; son, Roger of Kansas City, Missouri; grandchildren, Natalie (Brian) Crick, Brittany (Todd) Lowe, and Trent Hanner, and five precious great-grandchildren, Olivia and Adam Crick, Julianna, Justine, and Jude Lowe. Also surviving are her sister, Myrtis Johnson and brother-in-law, W.C. Marks of Lilburn, Georgia. Many beloved nieces and nephews also survive. The family will welcome friends at Forest Lawn Funeral Home in Goodlettsville, Tennessee, Sunday 2-6 and Monday 10-12, with the funeral at 12 Noon, Pastor Daryl Blank officiating. A private burial service will be held at Middle Tennessee State Veterans' Cemetery on Tuesday.
