Born Sharon Elaine Cox on Monday, August 15, 1955, to Jack and Adele Cox in Albany, GA, she accepted Jesus as her Lord and Savior as a child at Sunnyside Baptist Church in Albany. At 17 years old, she married Mike Fisher and traveled the world with him as he served in the U.S. Marine Corps.
Over the years, Sharon served the Lord in many different churches and in many ways, but her passion was always working with children. Sharon was a long-time children’s Sunday School teacher and VBS director. She also taught in daycares and pre-schools throughout the years. Most recently, Ms. Sharon (her teacher name) taught the four-year-old class at the Kingdom Kid’s program at Parkway Baptist Church.
Sharon loved her church family at Dickerson Road Baptist Church where she’s been a member for the last 16 years. She taught Sunday School and Children’s Church, she was part of the church council, she participated in women’s Bible study groups, and could always be found helping in the kitchen during church events.
Her other love was being Gramie and spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, going out to eat (unsweet tea with no lemon), playing games (hangman, anyone?), doing puzzles (the more pieces the better) or crafts (have you seen her craft room?), or just laughing at all their silliness.
In the days just before her passing, Sharon was able to spend some quality time with her five siblings in Florala, Alabama. Praise God for the blessing of quality family time!
Sharon’s life had an impact on so many over the years. She will be truly missed!
